Paragon Donates Vital Veterinary Equipment to African Charity
Vets here at Paragon have generously donated surgical equipment and textbooks to veterinary colleagues in Africa.
The benevolent gesture was arranged by Jane Scott, an advanced practitioner in internal medicine.
Kind-hearted Jane spent six years working alongside vet nurse Theresa Sparkes, who’s since returned to her native Zimbabwe to work as a hospital manager for the charitable animal welfare organisation SPCA.
The pair, who worked together at our sister practice, Calder Vets, have stayed in touch and Jane was quick to rally support when her former colleague asked for help.
She said: “Theresa contacted me to see if we could help by sending textbooks and surgical equipment because their resources at SPCA are very limited.
“So, I shared the request with my fellow vets at Paragon and there’s been an overwhelming response.
“We donated surgical instrument kits and were able to collect 50 textbooks on subjects such as internal medicine, surgery, dermatology, cardiology, neurology, ophthalmology, parasitology, pharmacology and anaesthesia.
“Theresa’s since been in touch to say our donations have been gratefully received and even shared some photographs of the SPCA team with them.
“It’s very gratifying and everyone at Paragon is delighted we were able to support our veterinary colleagues in Zimbabwe like this.
“We hope the donations will help develop knowledge and enhance the welfare and treatment of the patients of the SPCA.”
Theresa has written to Jane expressing her thanks for the help and support offered by Paragon.
Her message read: “Dearest Jane and all your amazing colleagues at Paragon. I would like to say a great big thank you for the absolutely amazing collection of books and instruments that have been received at our Harare SPCA.
“The books have re-ignited my veterinary surgeons’ fire and there has been much excitement in the camp!
“The instruments have been in daily use, a real Godsend in these difficult Zimbabwean times.
“Thank you all for your incredible support and effort. I have sent some photos and believe me, under the face masks are huge smiles!”
